Review: Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream and Enca Acne Control Total Concealer

Hey beauties, back in October I received my WishTrend order of the Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream and the Enca Concealer. I have been using it on and off since as a daily base for casual outings and for work. I think I’ve tested it enough to write a review!

Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream

BB Cream is a blemish/beblesh/ balm, which acts as an all in one product for serum, moisturizer, primer, concealer, and sunscreen. Starting in Asian markets, the BB Cream is considered the last step in your skincare routine, to protect your skin from outside “hazards” like pollution, dirt, sunburn, while providing gentle, protective ingredients. In my experience with BB Creams, the undertone was almost always grey, or too dewy, or too light. This, plus the inaccessibility of these products left me in disappointment that I can’t try the latest trend from Asia that’s supposed to help with problematic skin. Although Western brands have come out with their own BB Cream with better shade ranges and undertones, it’s categorized more of a makeup base rather than a skincare item; almost like a tinted moisturizer. I personally was not intrigued by this, and dismissed my search for a good BB Cream.

I discovered the Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream while watching Youtube videos, particular from WishTrendTV. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try. Worst case scenario, I’d give it to a relative. This product has a lot of claims, I recommend checking out the WishTrend Website for the full description.

Product Claims:

“Natural, but still pretty.

#NaturalButStillPretty #MochiBB #MySkinButBetter #KlairsBBcream

Capturing your natural skin tone color, Klairs BB Cream pulls out the best of what you got underneath… Suitable for every skin type, even sensitive and acne prone.

1) Natural, translucent finish The Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream revolutionized the grayscale shade of many Korean BB creams. It doesn’t thickly cover the skin for the natural, lively skin tone look. Depending on skin type and personal preference, can be mixed with matte foundation.

2) Complete hydration even for dry, sensitive skin As an hydration cream, it applies closely even to dry, sensitive skin and adds healthy shine to make the skin lively and youthful. With a mild, hypoallergenic formula, it’s safe to use on sensitive skin as well.

3) Multiple applications without the clumping The Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream is made with Klair’s special formula for effective coverage of pores and redness. Multiple applications for additional coverage is possible without the clumping or heaviness for a natural finish.”

On the tube:
“You look so wonderful just the way you are
Be natural, Klairs.
SPF 40, PA++

Wrinkle Care
Sebum Control”

Ingredients:

Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Betaine, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Titanium Dioxide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Niacinamide, Polysorbate 60, Dimethicone, Cetyl Peg/Ppg-10/1 Dimethicone, Zinc Oxide, Yellow Oxide Of Iron, Isoamyl P-Methoxycinnamate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Bentonite, Sodium Chloride, Silica, Red Oxide Of Iron, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Stearic Acid, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Chlorphenesin, Talc, Black Oxide Of Iron, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance, Centella Asiatica Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Piper Methysticum Leaf/Root/Stem Extract, Allantoin, Adenosine, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Extract, Hibiscus Esculentus Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Hibiscus Mutabilis Flower Extract, Corchorus Olitorius Leaf Extract, Methylisothiazolinone

From what I can tell by the initial list of ingredients, they are moderately safe ones, for the purpose of creating the texture, finish, colour, and primary function of the bb cream (like sunscreen). The latter part of the list is what makes it an anti-irritant product, and safe for the most sensitive of skin types.

Usage:

I squeezed out a dime-sized amount, and felt that it was a rather thick cream. IMG_7010Immediately I noticed a really odd smell, I honestly don’t know how to describe it.  Hoping it would go away, I dotted it around my face and neck, and blended it in with my fingers. Thank goodness I couldn’t smell it anymore! My initial reaction is that there is no grey finish, and it looks VERY natural. My face does look rather pale at first, but after a few minutes it begins to oxidize to my own skin colour.

The lighting is different in the before and after photos, sorry! But you can still see what the BB Cream does.
  • Natural, translucent finish – True to the hashtag #MySkinButBetter, it’s like it enhanced my own skin, without it looking like I put anything on my face. It evened out the redness I had, and blurred out my visible pores at the front of my face. The illuminating aspect of it gives the skin a very soft glow, nothing over dewy.
  • Complete hydration even for dry, sensitive skin – Truthfully I can’t tell whether or not this adds hydration to my skin, but I know my face never feels dried out when using it.
  • Multiple Applications without the clumping – After applying 2 layers, there has definitely been no sign of cakiness on my face. I would say the blurring aspect stayed fairly the same after the first application, however redness in certain pesky spots seem more toned done than before. A concealer would still be needed.
  • Whitening – If anything, my face still looks even tone and bright when I wash it off, but I wouldn’t solely depend on this as a whitening product
  • Wrinkle Care – Not sure if it’s referring to the sunscreen aspect of this, but I barely have any wrinkles, so can’t say if it helps with that.
  • Sebum Control – I’m not as oily as I used to be, so I find it controls it pretty well for the most part. I’d say this function is lost by the end of the day, especially when you’ve been running around or have been working. A touch up with powder or a blot may be needed.

Extras:

  • Sometimes I have days when all I want to do is concealer with a bit of blush and bronzer, but the blush and bronzer won’t say well unless I have a good base underneath. This BB Cream provides the perfect natural base when you don’t feel like overdoing your makeup for the day.
  • I tried mixing this with a darker foundation so it may match the rest of my body better. Unfortunately all I got was an odd colour that did not oxidize well.
  • I am super acne-prone, and this BB Cream has never broken me out. I think it’s safe to say, acne-prone people are able to use this.
  • I don’t think there is a flashback to this product. It’s hard to say, because the colour of my face and the rest of my body are a couple of shades different. Although my face is lighter than my body, it doesn’t show any signs of discolouration on my face that would wash me out. Instead, it shows a nice, illuminating aspect to my skin. I’ve tested the BB Cream out on my chest, where it is really tan, to see if there would still be a colour match.

Rating: 4/5

Overall Opinion:

This BB Cream is different from others I have tried. True to its hashtags, It has a beautiful, natural finish. It also matches my skin tone, blurs out my pores, evens out redness, and doesn’t irritate my skin. It’s also nice that it’s in a 40ml tube. The reason I give it a 4/5 is due to the smell, as well as the fact that I can’t get it to match my face with my body. Other than these tidbits, I definitely recommend it to all skin types, if your skin tone ranges between fair to medium. I don’t think those with darker skin tones my find this of use, especially if you want to layer. The outcome may not match perfectly, and may look gray from the SPF ingredients.

Enca Acne Control Total Concealer

Along with the Klairs BB Cream came the Enca Acne Control Total Concealer. I decided to get this bundle just for fun, and I have yet to be amazed by a concealer. Once again, there’s a long list of claims, feel free to check it out on the website.

Usage:

IMG_7020First off, this bottle is only 3.5ml, and it’s retail price is $19.99 USD! *insert Home Alone looking emoji*. At first I thought it was just a samples size thrown in with the Klairs BB Cream, but nope, I got the full deal with this concealer. Aside from the price and size, it is a nice thin consistency that already has a visible yellow undertone. I applied it to random areas on my face that I felt needed extra coverage, and blended it in with my finger.

IMG_7032

  • Cover pimples perfectly – I feel like it did a decent job!
  • Wont make your pimples worse – Never caused a pimple to look bigger.
  • Cover pimples without clogging pores – Never experienced congested skin.
  • Calm pimples and reduce redness – like the BB Cream, I always notice how much less inflamed my skin looks after taking off the product.
  • Suitable for all areas of the face – I tested it underneath my eyes, and it seems fine, but I’d rather use this concealer strictly for problematic areas.
  • Make the skin look flawless, bright and smooth – It definitely blends into the skin well, and does not look noticeable on the skin.
  • Won’t cause irritation and is suitable for sensitive skin – Again, my face always looks calmer and clearer once I remove my makeup.

Rating: 3/5

Overall Opinion:

It’s not a bad concealer by any means. I love that it matches my skin colour, it’s a thin consistency, blends very easily, and lasts a fair amount of time when set with powder. I also like that it doesn’t cause my pimples to be more noticeable or further inflame the spots. The reason I’m giving this a 3/5 is because the price is not worth the size. It’s been since the end of October since I’ve received this product, and I’ve already gone through half the tube. There are more available, affordable, and just as functional concealers in the closest Shopper’s Drugmart. The formula is great and all, I just wish it was more worth my while to get it again (It is currently on sale for $7 USD on the WishTrend website, but it still doesn’t tempt me).
