The Release | Sappho New Paradigm

Hey beauties,

In November Sappho Cosmetics released their new line “Sappho New Paradigm” into the green beauty world.  The Detox Market on King St. was hosting their launch party in Toronto and I just had to check it out!

Canadian makeup artist, JoAnn Fowler, founded the company in 2008. She developed Sappho Cosmetics to provide a green and clean alternative to the toxic, chemically laden commercial brands that are currently on the market.

The Essential Sappho Foundation in “Leisha” was the first green foundation I have ever used, and it turned my world upside down. Back in 2013 I was in skin turmoil; I had a crazy amount of cystic acne that was persistent to stay, and I had no idea what my skin colour or undertone was. Using the foundation for the first time, I finally saw my skin. It covered the redness, minimized the bumps, indented scars, and enlarged pores, controlled my oily skin without looking caky. On top of that, my skin healed very quickly once I delved more into the green beauty world. When I found out JoAnn and her team would be in Toronto to launch their new line, I absolutely had to attend to tell her in person how amazing her product is.

The Revamp

Her original line with Essential Foundations had 8 shades in a dark plastic bottle; it originally had no pump, but was added to the line later. The latest New Paradigm foundation line now has 12 shades, in sturdier bottles, with pumps!

The original line also carried 4 blushes, 2 bronzers, 7 eye shadows, 2 concealers and setting powder. In Sappho New Paradigm, it now has 2 primers, 4 CC creams, 5 concealers, 3 shimmers, 5 pressed powders, 5 brow pomades, mascara, and 2 lip glosses! Talk about a revamp.

The Foundation

The finish of the foundation is a bit creamier than the old one, but the finished look is just as comparable: my skin but better. Below on the left photo is the newest foundation, the right being the original. You can tell from first glance that the foundation is a tad more liquidy and not as mousse-like as the original.

The picture below is a before (left) and an after (right) of a light layer of the New Paradigm foundation in #7. Even the lightest layer covered the redness around my breakouts, my pores are finely blurred, and shows an all around even colour.

I got a chance to get my base done by JoAnn herself. I couldn’t even tell foundation was on my face when she was picking out my colour! I was happy with the finish because it covered nicely, matched my colour and undertone while showing a natural finish.

Other GoodiesProcessed with VSCO

wp-1480709373691.jpgWhile at the event, I was given a goodie bag! Pretty exciting for me, since this was the first launch I have ever been to. In addition to a sample of my shade in #7, I also received:
Makeup remover sample
Lip gloss samples in the shade “Rita”
Sappho compact mirror with 4 eyeshadows and a blush
Oval Buffing Foundation Brush
Blush Brush
Angle Brush
Crease Brush

Can’t wait to put them all to work! I’ll write another post later what I think about the samples and brushes after using them for bit.

Thank you Detox Market for hosting the launch party, JoAnn Fowler for being so sweet and complimenting me on my (mostly) cleared skin, and the other makeup artists and DM staff I met while at the event. I’m a very anxious person when I attend events by myself and you all made me feel very welcomed.

UPDATE: Just filmed a video wearing all these products on my YouTube

Would really appreciate you checking it out! I’m quite new so please be kind 🙂

xo, M
