As you may have guessed by the title, I will be reviewing some mascaras I’ve “emptied” (or dried up, or never touched again…)
It’s a bit of a tricky review to do since I can’t apply any of these on my lashes any more, but I’ll do my best to describe the formulations and how my lashes felt (if that makes sense.)
Dior Diorshow Extase
This one was recommended to me by a friend as one of her favourite mascaras, and has the whole shabang of what I’m looking for (lengthen, volumize). If you’re the kind to stick to one type of mascara, this would be a good option because it will take its sweet sweet time to dry out. It was very wet when I first started using it, and it stayed that way until I got bored of it. It was okay. It delivered, but it smudged easily because of the formulation and sometimes my lashes would just stick together. The brush is an hourglass-type wand, but unfortunately it’s hard to tell in the photo because of all the product that dried up.
Earth Lab Cosmetics Raw Black
I hate the wand. I felt like it never actually brushed my lashes. Also I wasn’t a huge fan of the formula. All it did was coat your lashes black. No volumizing, no lengthening, thickening…. Just colouring my lashes from dark brown to black. If that’s what your looking for in a mascara in green beauty, by all means, this is the one. Otherwise, I have found better green mascaras since.
Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara
I LOVE the wand on this! I am very into even-sized wands with a ton of little bristles. I find this kind of wand gives my lashes the most of what it wants – length, colour and volume. Formula was great and never irritated my eyes – I’m pretty sure it kept my lashes healthy and made them longer! Not sure why I never bought the full size, but I think I was convinced it was making my lashes droopy (though now I think more about it, it could’ve been my eyelash curling method at the time (super lazy).) I would most definitely recommend this mascara, and the more I remember it, the more I want to repurchase it.
L’Oreal Miss Manga
I’m usually not into the tapered tip mascara wands, but this one was pretty easy to use. I liked how my lashes looked, it sort of reminded me of the Maybelline Falsies! One thing that REALLY bothered me about this mascara, so much so I stopped using it for this reason, is that there was fallout… Yes, fallout. Brand spankin’ new, and by the end of the day I had a bunch of black specks around my eye. I will not be going back to this!
I don’t think anyone dislikes this mascara, myself included! The wand is even and tiny, making it great to get at the root of lashes and work your way up to build. My one and only little problem with it is it doesn’t volumize. Otherwise, this is my go-to in the summer in the waterproof edition!
Maybelline Volum’ Express the Rocket
I used this a total of 2 times. It was SO hyped up on YouTube, part of the reason why it was such a disappointment. The wand is awful. AWFUL. What the deuce is that? Also, I’m not sure if it’s because I picked it up at Walmart, but it felt heavy on my lashes, and it chunked them together and made them spikey. I immediately cast this one aside and never touched it again.
Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes
I saved the worst for last. The worst mascara I have ever spent so much money on. And trust me, I have read the directions on how to use this two -three sized whatever wand to get the most out of my lashes. I poked myself in the eye multiple times with this damn needle. It also had an uncanny ability of chunking all my lashes together and making them look like long, voluminous sticks. For the price, it was definitely not worth the money, and I should have returned it when I had the chance.
And that’s that for my mascara empties! To recap, the ONLY mascaras I would repurchase are the Josie Maran Argan Black Oil and L’Oreal Telescopic.
Hope the review was informed enough to get an idea of my love and hate for these mascaras! Any of the ones I disliked you loved, and I should give another chance?
