REVIEW: Weleda Evening Primrose Products!

If you know me, it is nothing new if I say I am OBSESSED with Weleda’s Skin Food. Almost everyone I lent it to for their dry hands were immediately sold on the product.

I was fortunate enough to receive a package of Weleda goodies to review*. Part of the products I got were from the Evening Primrose line and I just had to try it out! I have never tried Weleda facial products before, so I was definitely looking forward to them!

*Yes, I was given these items complimentary. I will always, ALWAYS post an honest review.

In particular, I’ll be reviewing:
Weleda Evening Primrose Age Revitalizing Day Cream 1.0FL oz/30ml $38 USD
Weleda Evening Primrose Age Revitalizing Night Cream 1.0FL oz/30ml $40 USD
Weleda Evening Primrose Revitalizing Body Wash 6.8 FL oz/30ml $10 USD

Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis) Oil

Commonly referred to as Evening Primrose, this light, high quality oil is extracted from the plant’s seeds. It is comprised of a high content of omega 6 essential fatty acids and Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA). It is ideal for the treatment of dry skin and inflammatory conditions, such as eczema and arthritis.

As you can see, there is a theme here: revitalizing. I am only 26, but it can’t hurt to test products to prevent and prolong!

It’s weird that they separate the two, because Gamma Linoleic Acid IS an omega 6 essential fatty acid. GLA primarily functions to help soothe, repair the skin barrier, and retain moisture.

From this ingredient alone, it seems like this would be perfect for acne prone, dry skin peeps like myself. I gave these products a go for a month and am ready to share my experience!

Age Revitalizing Day Cream

I think I’m so used to Skin Food’s thick texture, I was so surprised to get an almost milky one from this day cream. Although she be pricey for such a small amount of product, a little goes a long way in covering the entire face.

There’s a nice, light tingly sensation when I apply it, but nothing uncomfortable. I immediately notice a brightening effect and my complexion looking healthier. However I think my skin is SO dry, it does not moisturize enough for me. I’d go through this tube SO fast with how dry my face is, I always need to apply something else.

Age Revitalizing Night Cream

Richer than the day cream, but not as heavy as Skin Food. Little goes a long way as well in covering the entire face and gives almost similar effects as the Day Cream, but just a tad more nourishing. Unfortunately, the moisturizing aspect also does not last long with this one. When I wake up it’s as if I never applied any moisturizer on the night before. If I layer an oil afterwards, my face still feels moisturized the next morning.

Revitalizing Body Wash

IMG_20170616_145336I REALLY like how creamy this product is and the scent is not too powderful. It’s a pretty big tub of product and I myself like to be pretty generous with it (although you don’t need a lot for a normal wash). My skin isn’t super soft after using this product, but my dry and chapped legs don’t look and feel as painfully sand-paperish when I touch them. As someone who gets the occasional body acne, this product fortunately did not aggravate any of the current active spots I have!

OVERALL

I’ll be real here, I can’t stand the scent of Evening Primrose. I’ve tried to get over it but for me it does put a damper on me enjoying these products. It just smells like molasses, or some potent medicine to me!

As for the actual performance of the products, all I’ve noticed for the month is that it has maintained the brightened look of my complexion, and gave it an overall healthier look. With summer here, I already gained a slight tan, and these moisturizers make sure my complexion is not uneven or emphasize the dark areas of my T-zone. This product has never contributed to a breakout, and I noticed my current inflamed breakouts would subside the next day. Not dramatically, but there was a difference!

My problem is because my skin is so dry, the little 1oz tubes are just not enough for me. Perhaps with normal or combo skin types, these moisturizers may be worth while. I definitely got a good use out of the 1oz Skin Food that comes with the Everlon Lip Balm!

The Revitalizing Body Wash is an okay product, but I prefer the lovely citrus-scented Sea Bukthorn Creamy Body Wash I got in the Weleda Mighty Essentials Kit. The scent is quite a bother to me, so I’d rather use a body wash that doesn’t make my nose crinkle.

Although I’m not 100% sold on the Evening Primrose line for myself, I thought it was great quality overall; normal skin types that meet the checks of dull, mature, and/or acne-prone skin would definitely benefit from this line! My interest in Weleda’s other skincare lines has definitely peaked; hopefully I’ll find a line that will cater better to my skin type and I can use minimally like the product intends.

Hope this review helped and that the start of your summer has been nice and sunny!

xo, M
