BEST OF BEAUTY 2017: MAKEUP

20180113171740_IMG_3420

Another year, another round up of beauty products I have loved for 2017! And by love I mean… When I think about these products, it gives me the glo on the inside. I’ve actually discovered so many products in 2017, the skincare round up is a different post all-together! I don’t think it’s possible for me to live minimally. So much to try, not enough faces!

Complexion

Primer: J. One Jelly Pack

If I could describe this product in one word, it would be “glue”. This product is mainly skincare, but damn does it keep your foundation from melting! It really preps the skin and creates a nice, smooth canvas for makeup application.

Foundation: Fitglow Beauty Vita-Active Foundation (VF3.5) *

My favourite summertime foundation. It is light-medium coverage at best and it does a good job at evening out my skin tone and making sure my lighter-skinned face is matching the rest of my body. This is one of those indie brands that are full of beneficial skin ingredients, and you can feel the hydration on your face once you apply it! Back when I was a bit more self-conscious about my skin, I would were a thin layer of this product at the gym and it was able to hold in place the entire workout period!

Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way Foundation (Light Beige)

I diiiiid discover this in the last months of the year, but it was a quick win. It sounds disturbing, but it looks like I put a flawless layer of skin on when I use this product. Although you can kinda tell that you’re wearing foundation, it does not look cakey at all and it makes my face look healthy and smooth. Without powdering or using setting spray this foundation definitely has longevity, the only thing is your face will look quite dewy at the end of the day.

Eye Area

Brows: Son & Park Eyebrow Pencil – 01 Ash Gray

This is by far the best colour match out of any eyebrow pencil I have tried. It is the PERFECT ash gray for those of you with Asian brows. I have 2 backups because I like this product so much!

Brows: Nudestix Eyebrow Stylus Pencil & Gel – Blonde

Although it ran out quickly, it easily became a favourite brow product. The triangular shape of the product actually made it fast and easy to carve out brows and the colour ended up matching my at the time ash brown air very well. Definitely a good brow product if you want something easy!

Eyeshadow: Etude House Blend for Eyes Quad – Dried Rose

I’m quite impressed how good Etude House eyeshadows are, and this quad has been a favourite since. Really beautiful, pigmented colour selection where the colours can either all be used for a dramatic look, or you can use one shadow for a quick wash of colour on the lid.

Eyeshadow: Be… by Bubzbeauty Bh Cosmetics Palette

This was a biased buy because I freaking love Bubz. At first I was a bit hesitant about this palette because I couldn’t think of how to use the colours together. However the more I used it, the more my creative juices started flowing! I think Bubz did a great job on this palette and it’s a really good grab if you’re looking for an eyeshadow palette that is affordable and versatile.

Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

I must make this clear: The Dollywink Volume Mascara is still my all-time favourite mascara, and I did use a tube up this year. But I wanted to mention something different.

I decided to rely on our local drugstore and I am surprised that the Lash Paradise mascara performs so well. I love the hourglass wand shape and it separates and gives volume to my eyelashes. It smudges a tad by the end of the day, but by no means does it give you raccoon eyes. Until I get a hold of the Dollywink one again, I’m happy to use this!

Mascara: Innisfree Skinny Microcara

The Innisfree Microcara is pretty much perfect for my bottom lashes because of how tiny the want bristles are. On my more more natural days, I’ll use this on my top lashes as well and it definitely provides nice length. I already got my friend to pick up another tube when he went to Seoul this past year!

Cheeks

Highlighter: Essence Pure Nude Highlighter

You go, Essence! This is my favourite item from their cosmetic line. Very beautiful, soft highlight that I use in my every day makeup routine. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE needs this product to give themselves that little somethin’ in their makeup look.

Highlighter: Becca Highlighters – Moonstone and Champagne Pop

Late on the bandwagon, but gosh darn these highlights are so beautiful! Every time I apply one of them I can’t help but be like “BAMN BABY!” Definitely more expensive than the Essence one, but also a staple that’ll make you go “umph”.

Bronzer: Saint Cosmetics On Cloud 9 Bronzer

This is a well-balanced bronzer. And by that I mean, not muddy, not orange, not red, not dark. It gives me the perfect bronzed, sunkissed look! Saint Cosmetics is a new Canadian Indie brand I discovered in 2017 and this bronzer is the best item I picked up.

Contour Powder: Too Cool for School Artclass by Rodin Contour and Shading Compact

You know when you want to be a little extra on your nose contour? This is the best contour powder for that. You can build and build your nose contour and it will still look really nice and natural. This also applies to the other contour areas as well. The colours don’t look too muddy or ashy on the skin and I like that you can use a heavier hand with this product because of how light it deposits colour.

Lips

“Lipstick”: Nudestix Intense Matte Lip & Cheek Pencil Purity and Belle

Aside from sharpening these mofos, I’m really impressed with Nudestix’s lip products. Purity is my favourite colour out of the bunch I have tried, and it also looks good on the cheeks. I find these lip pencils do not leave a line around your lips, don’t dry your lips out and last a while.
[REVIEW] NUDESTIX: Concealer Pencil (Light 3), Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil (Kiss, Pixi, Belle, & Purity), Lash Lengthening Mascara

Liquid Lipstick: Dose of Colors DesixKaty Matte Liquid Lipstick Hot Fire

HHHHHNGH. Love the colour, my absolute favourite orange red lip product to date! This was my first time trying a DOC product as well and I am very impressed with the quality. This liquid lipstick feels very comfortable, and it doesn’t apply patchy or bleed! Everyone needs this colour. It makes me so so happy when I wear it.

And that’s it! Notice I didn’t mention any concealer, blush or setting sprays. It’s because I’m still favouriting the ones I mentioned in my last year’s round up and I didn’t want to repeat why I liked them.

Here’s me wearing almost all the products! (like… not all the lip products and stuff). Face is a little bit shiny from the lights)
