REVIEW: It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ (Medium)

I finally bit the bullet and purchased a very highly talked about item in the beautysphere – the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+. My main reason for buying it is because I wanted a complexion product that will give me a “my skin but better” look while providing sun protection and mainly consist of skincare ingredients. The It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ pretty much fills all my requirements! But does it perform well? Onto the review.

MY EXPERIENCE

Packaging & Application
I love the packaging – a tube with a pump! It appeals to me because I can use up the tube without having to annoyingly scoop it out of a bottle. For application, I usually use 1/2-3/4th of a pump to cover my entire face and just under my jaw where I have some marks. I pretty much apply it the way their website page recommends – build with thin layers, focusing first on where you may need coverage the most.I find this also counteracts the slight ashy cast you may get with this product. Tis the nature of the beast when you’re dealing with a complexion product with mineral SPF!

Finish
Another complaint  I read about this product is how greasy you feel after applying, but if you apply the proper way in minimal amounts, I find I’m left with a nice, soft dewy finish without a tacky feeling. I wouldn’t say this is the ultimate pore blurrer, but it definitely diffuses their appearance, and most definitely colour corrects – more like what what a BB cream is supposed to do. The coverage is high medium at best; It doesn’t achieve full coverage for me because it doesn’t cover all of my big hyper-pigmentation marks, and I don’t like using a lot of this product.

Colour
I chose the colour Medium because I felt like Light would create to much of a contrast between my face and body. Back in the colder months I could tell that Medium was sliiiiiiiiightly darker than the rest of my body, but all I did was mix it in with a lighter shade BB Cream I had on hand (see Glass Skin for the Unblessed: Skincare Focused, Minimal Makeup). The sun now however is showing off my warmer tones, so the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ looks real good on its own. Surprisingly the ashiness isn’t so crazy compared to the reviews I’ve seen from the lightest to darkest shades! I think it could be due to how I take a minimal approach at first and gradually build up the coverage.

Wear
I am very surprised how long the CC Cream lasts without primer, indoors or outside. The weather is warm and sunny where I am right now, and I never have a melted, blotchy look on my face. Also, I find it makes my skin feel slightly drier as the time passes, and I’m not sure which ingredient could cause it, since it’s a pretty long list. But it doesn’t bother me too much, especially since the weather is warmer and I’ll be slightly oilier this time of year.

FYI: I am wearing concealer on that big one on my chin.

Skincare Benefits & Ingredients
I LOVE that Snail Secretion Filtrate is the second ingredient on the list. As weird as it may seem, snail mucus is a skincare multitasker that can suit many skin types and assist with overall skin health! Some common effects I’ve noticed on myself have been increase in moisture, wound healing, minimizing acne and redness, give my skin a smoother appearance. Yep, I’ve definitely benefitted from snail! And funny enough, this It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ was made in Korea! It most definitely explains the snail ingredient, as well as the long ass ingredient list of plant extracts. Their ingredients list is so long, I truly wonder if the “hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and antioxidants” in their description really do anything. What I do notice is that my face looks smoother and near the end of the day when I remove my makeup, my skin looks in pretty good shape (ie. not cakey or splotchy, but pretty calm and collected). The SPF 50+ actually protects my skin very well, and serves as a great secondary application of SPF. It Cosmetics recommend applying this every 2 hours like an actual sunscreen, but I won’t be doing that with a $49 product that’s not even 3 oz :\

Some questionable ingredients that caught my eye are the few citrus oils on the list. I’ve emailed It Cosmetics CA and asked about the citrus oils, but I have not received an answer. I found a Reddit discussion where someone asked the same question, to which the answer was the citrus oils in cosmetics, especially if formulated by a proper lab and not someone’s kitchen, is safe for your skin. I’m going out on a limb and guessing it’s also in there for its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties as a type of preservative. Anyone know? Please comment down below for confirmation.

Main Claims:

  • Full-coverage foundation – I’ve only attempted high medium coverage on my own face, so I can’t comment.
  • SPF 50+ UVA/UVB broad-spectrum physical sunscreen – It does a great job as a secondary base for sun protection! I would not solely depend on it in replacement of a regular sunscreen.
  • Brightening color corrector – I don’t think it’s incredibly brightening; My skin looks even tone and doesn’t oxidize or look run down by the end of the day.
  • Hydrating Anti-aging serum – My skin eventually feels slightly dry by the end of the day, so this doesn’t contribute much in terms of hydration.
  • Poreless finish primerMy skin always looks smoother and my pores look less prominent! It’s not 100% because it is quite a glowy finish. It doesn’t sink into my pores though, it somewhat keeps the look
  • Dark spot concealer – I tried to spot conceal with this and it does not give 100% coverage. I still need a concealer for those pesky ones.
  • Moisturizing day creamThat is quite the stretch! Friendly reminder, I have quite dry skin. By touch my skin feels moisturized but I still have a dehydrated feeling. Do not think this is a decent replacement for your moisturizer or sunscreen!

I most definitely recommend the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ if you’re looking for the same features like I mentioned at the beginning of this post! I know the big talk about the minimal shades and ashy finish is a problem for some, so please go into a Sephora or Ulta and get a sample or test it out before you commit to the full tube. The only other BB / CC type product that may not have the cast and has a slightly bigger shade range is SmashBox Camera Ready BB Water Broad Spectrum SPF 30 – it’s a blend of Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, and Octinoxate as it’s active ingredients for sun protection. Let me know if you recommend this alternative down below!
