Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème caught my eye while perusing my local pharmacy in the late summer of 2023. The minimal ingredients, the texture, the cooling sensation… I immediately had to pick it up and give it a try before summer was out. 6 months and an almost empty tube later, I thought it was due for a review!
For reference, my skin type is oily, prone to dehydration and congestion.
General Information About
Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème
“Atoderm Intensive gel-cream is the first anti-itching skin care product with a fresh ultra-light texture* that is rapidly absorbed by the skin. Its formula meets the specific needs of dry to atopic skin :
– The Enoxolone derivative immediately and lastingly soothes feelings of itching and reduces the urge to scratch
– The patented Skin Barrier Therapy™ complex limits the adhesion of certain bacteria (staphylococcus aureus) to the skin’s surface. These bacteria can aggravate skin dryness.
– Vitamin B3, a biomimetic moisturizing agent, strengthens the skin barrier. Atoderm Intensive gel-cream is part of NAOS’ eco-biological approach by offering a care product with a unique texture, which is both highly effective and easy to apply, in keeping with the environment and the patient’s lifestyle.
– Hydro-absorbent Technology: Restoring skin hydration. Captures water from the environment to optimise skin hydration and strengthen its barrier function.”

Application & Texture
After applying toner and/or serum, before sunscreen, I apply a nickelish size amount all over my face and neck. The texture of the Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème is a thick gel that looks cloudy after dispensing some product, but glides easily into a clear thinner gel.
My Experience Using
Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème
First Impressions
The first time I ever used Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème was after a few hours spent outside in late summer weather. My skin instantly cooled and felt relieved. Earlier that day, I tried to use squalane oil as a moisturizer. Long story short, it failed – skin looked nice and glowy and even, but I felt dehydrated on the inside. The Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème instantly relieved that tight, dehydrated feeling. It was such a great first impression, I was excited to further use it in my skincare routine.
Half-Way
Even while the weather was still summery and humid, it felt like the Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème at times did not moisturize enough and I needed to ensure a more moisturizing sunscreen was applied. It also started to pill on my face. I tried to use it as a body moisturizer, applying it to a place where I don’t layer skincare ever. I still experienced pilling.
Almost Emptied
As I write this review, I am using the rest of the moisturizer to re-jog my memory and confirm previous thoughts I had since I took a break from it during the winter months. Immediately after application, it still softens my skin without feeling congested. I used it in my nighttime routine after tretinoin, and I woke up to comfortably moisturized skin without any pilling. I also applied it as a moisturizer step in my morning routine after a mist and serum. My skin at first felt a little dry because I only applied a dime-sized amount. I reapplied another dime-sized amount, my skin felt comfortably moisturized and it lasted throughout the day.
Final Thoughts on
Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème
Pros:
- Minimal ingredients list which makes it easy to read and offers more simplicity.
- Honours skin’s natural finish – not super glowy or matte.
- Lovely cooling effect, great for hot days.
- Light on the skin, but adds moisture and makes my skin feel soft.
- Works well in my nighttime routine with tretinoin.
- Great value for the size – around $30 CAD for 500ml.
In-Between Feels:
- Pilling – it happens every so often that I can’t keep track of what would cause it. When there is no pilling, I enjoy using this moisturizer.
- Sometimes, even in humid months, it would feel like it did not sufficiently moisturize my skin. Considering my skin’s moisture balance has normalized since I first used this moisturizer, I haven’t had that experience, especially when I apply a decent amount.
Overall, the Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel-Crème is a great option for those looking for an easy to purchase gel to cream moisturizer that will honour your skin’s natural finish while providing a cooling effect.
I may repurchase the full size in the future, but we’ll see where my interests take me once I’ve emptied other moisturizers in my collection.
That’s it for this review! As always, I hope you find content like this helpful and informative.
