I first tried the Dr. G Clear R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream back in 2021 after eyeing it for years and hearing so many positive reviews. I loved it so much, I featured it in my skincare favourites of 2021. I have purchased this cream a second time in 2023, and have yet again featured it in an annual favourites. Considering I have favourited the Dr. G Clear R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream every year I purchased it, I thought it was more than appropriate to finally write a dedicated review!
Please note that the jar I have is the original formula (so the internet says). Mine does not have fermented ingredients in the formula. On another note, I may go on a bit of a tangent at the end of this review about reformulating beloved products.

5-CICA Complex
The original Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream advertised a 5-CICA Complex, whereas the new one is 10. Based on my quick perusal on the internet, it factors in the addition of fermented ingredients.
Here are the 5 ingredients that make up this complex of soothing ingredients (based on Google Lens translation):
- Madecassoside – antioxidant, soothing
- Asiatic Acid – moisturizing, wound healing
- Asiaticoside – antioxidant
- Madecassic Acid – moisturizing, wound healing
- Centella Asiatica Extract – antioxidant, soothing, humectant
Other Highlighted Ingredients
- Glycerin – humectant found naturally in our skin, helps restore skin barrier, keeps skin cells healthy, protects skin from external aggressors
- Niacinamide – brightens, reduces pores, strengthens skin barrier, regulates sebum, anti-inflammatory
- Panthenol – soothing, wound healing
- Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate – soothing, humectant
- Epigallocatechin Gallate – antioxidant, soothing
- Beta-Glucan – humectant, soothing

Based on the ingredients list, I can see why those of us with oily, acne-prone skin would consider this moisturizer. It contains lightweight moisturizing molecules with soothing, antioxidant and wound healing benefits.
Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream
Application & Texture
After applying toner and/or serum, before sunscreen, I apply a nickelish size amount all over my face and neck. The texture of Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing cream is a lovely light gel-cream texture. It sinks into the skin easily, leaving a light moisturizing feel and a glowy finish.
My Experience Using
Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream
Everyday Use
I notice the Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream provides a lovely glow on my skin without looking borderline greasy. Throughout the day the light moisture lasts and my skin feels comfortably moisturized. If I were to use it at night in the summer, I did notice my skin felt soft in the morning. Not crusty, not rough, just comfortable and soft. In the winter months, I use a more moisturizing sunscreen over top and an occlusive like petrolatum at night without issue.
Post-CO2 Fraxel Laser
Back at the end of 2021, I started the process of fixing my acne scars by having 3 CO2 Fraxel Laser sessions. During the recovery period, I tested how soothing the Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream really was. I applied it on my super swollen, raw, sensitive skin. Thankfully, my skin was met with an immediate soothing and cooling sensation. All I needed was some extra moisturizer on top like Vaseline and my face felt good.
Final Thoughts on
Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream
Pros:
- Cosmetically elegant gel-cream.
- Kept my skin feeling comfortably moisturized.
- Soothed my skin, even after intensive cosmetic procedures.
- Able to use it all year round.
- A great option for a day time cica product. Something like the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ (reviewed) cannot be worn during the day because of the cast it gives. I consider the Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream the more cosmetic elegant alternative.
Cons:
- When I was trying to find the ingredient list online, I discovered there were a ton of variations until I found the one that matched the one I have on my box. It makes me wonder if the one I reviewed was even the most recent one before the reformulation. I wish there was some indicator as to what version/generation I have.
- The reformulation of a beloved product. Instead of replacing the original entirely, why not make a different version with the fermented ingredients? It’s not to say my skin dislikes fermented ingredients, but moreso I love this moisturizer as is! I’m sure this news also comes as a disappointment to those who loved the original moisturizer as well.
That’s it for this review! As always, I hope you find content like this helpful and informative.
